Katie's A/T Fundraiser (Ataxia telangiectasia)

This is Katie Minium and she has Ataxia Telangiectasia

Ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) is a primary immunodeficiency disease that affects a number of different organs in the body. An immunodeficiency disease is one that causes the immune system to break down, making the body susceptible to diseases. It is a rare, recessive genetic disorder of childhood that occurs in between 1 out of 40,000 and 1 out of 100,000 persons worldwide. The ailment is progressive. Patients with A-T are frequently wheelchair-bound by their teens, and the disease is generally fatal to patients by the time they reach their twenties.

All That's Green

If Gracie has a reason to get dressed up for something she's going to do it and go all out! I believe during the month of March Gracie's school (4th grade - West Creek Hills Elementary) celebrated a number of crazy days (Wacky Hair Day, Crazy Hat Day, Mismatch Day, Green Day etc...).  Above is a pic of Gracie dressing up for what I believe was "Green Day".

We did manage to hit the St. Paddy's Day Parade this year (it was cancelled last year due to weather). This year it was sunny, but windy, and they had the parade on March 22nd - it wasn't quite the same since St. Paddy's day had come and gone already but we had a good time anyway (and hit McDonald's on the way home for one last Shamrock Shake)! I did manage to make the traditional corned beef/cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. Sadly, St. Patrick's Day is nothing like it was when I was a kid when I was living back on Long Island.  I have such great memories of the Rocky Point parade and just having a blast with friends....shoot you would think it was Christmas the way they celebrate St. Patrick's Day back home on Long Island....LOL.

Hershey Suites - March 2014

During a silent auction (at work back in December) I won a weekend stay at Hershey Suites.  So come mid-March I decided it was time to get away from the house for a few days and me and the kids (and their friend Bailey) headed to Hershey for the weekend. We didn't do too much of anything. It was a little get away from home considering we've been cooped up in the house due to the crappy winter we've been having. The kids got to enjoy the pool, I vegged and watch some movies and we managed to make our way over to Chocolate World and the kids got to make their own chocolate bars. All in all, it was a nice little get away for a few short days.

Shamrock Shake Time!

Shamrock Shakes remind me of my mom...SHE LOVED THEM.  No, I'm not a big Shamrock Shake fan but my kids love them!  So it has become a tradition for us to stop at McDonald's at least THREE times during the month of March for Shamrock Shakes.

Missing My Mom

Sometimes is still hard for me to believe that she's still gone...it will be four years in May since her passing and it seems just like yesteday to me. She's with me, I can feel her presence, she will always be with me. Loving and missing you every day Mom!

Mom & Jacob Time - Bowling

Jake and I rarely get some one on one time together so when Gracie had her Girl Scouts father/daughter dance me and Jake took advantage of some one on one time and hit the bowling alley.

Snow Ball Dance

Gracie had her Girl Scouts annual father/daughter dance (Snow Ball Dance). Below are some pics I took before they left on their date.

Snow Day - Making Valentine's Day Cookies

February has been brutal here in PA as far as the weather goes. We've had quite a few snow days this month. I ended up having to call off one day do to snow/ice so I cleaned house and Gracie made Valentine's Day cookies.

Goodbye Basketball - Hello Baseball

Basketball season at the YMCA is officially over with and it's onto baseball season in a few weeks.  The Spartans played well and had a great season.

Arsenic & Old Lace - February 8, 2014

I went to see the play Arsenic & Old Lace with my buddy Bill and his wife Evanger at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA. I loved the performance! I saw it once before when I was stationed over in London and one of the characters (Jonathan) was played by Michael Richards (Kramer of the show Seinfeld)...another outstanding show performance. Looking forward to attending more shows in the future. I'm not big on "musicals" but I do enjoy "plays".

Spartans Basketball

This is the second year Jake is playing basketball at the YMCA (team name is the "Spartans"). He's 12 so he falls in a new division where he's now the youngest and not the oldest. He seemed to be a bit intimidated at first but is learning a lot from the older kids. He use to play basketball for our church but prefers playing for the "Y" because he gets a lot more playing time. Below are some pics I took before their first game (yes..they won!).

Hershey Bears Hockey - January 2014

Took the kids to a Bears game last weekend with my buddy Bill. Jake brought his friend Bailey along for the fun and Coco came to the suite to greet the kids. Fun was had by all and the Bears beat the Falcons 5-3.

Farm Show 2014

Lil' George was home from West Chester for a few days and the kids had no school because of the snow so Georgie took Jacob and Grace to the Farm Show in Harrisburg. The Farm Show is an annual big "what to do" here in Pennsylvania with all sorts of activities, shopping and good eating. Lil' George has been taking the kids to the event for quite a few years now. Whenever the Farm Show is held there's sure to be some bad weather which normally means "SNOW". This year we not only got snow, but we also got record breaking all time low temperatures too. Below are a few pics Lil' George took of Jacob and Grace.
